It was fun to take part in Musical of the Month with you!

It wasn't so much the references to death that struck me with Tootie, it was the situations that she was put in, like having her knock on a stranger's door. I mean, today, who'd even let their 5 year old go out trick or treating without an adult, much less knock on the door of a strange house by herself! I guess I was thinking about how much times have changed.

And I will definitely check out the dvd!Estherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16076517542540421210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912669500934497251.post-23225350878893408372008-12-07T17:02:00.000-05:002008-12-07T17:02:00.000-05:00I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I think the melancholy is one reason it resonates so well as a holiday film (as with "It's a Wonderful Life") -- that's some pretty weighty universal stuff holding it all down to earth. And I love Tootie because she's so realistically bratty, which goes a long way in cutting through any treacle. It's a marvelous performance.

Also, just saw Liza Minnelli sing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" last night at the Palace. I cried from beginning to end.karigeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16313190790440833847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912669500934497251.post-34399401985356504292008-12-07T07:16:00.000-05:002008-12-07T07:16:00.000-05:00Lovely post for a first-time viewer! And there are...Lovely post for a first-time viewer! And there are worse reasons to check out a film than because the main character shares your name... especially when the person sharing your name is Judy Garland! ;o)

I think Tootie's a hoot! And I think that obsession with death is phase lots of kids go through (I've seen it several of my sister's friends a while back), so it's portrayed pretty accurately.

Scarier is the mention (if it's true) in the dvd extras how Minelli got her to be so pissed off that she went down in a rage to destroy her "snow people".

And yeah, I highly reccomend the dvd to check out the bonuses!CrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912669500934497251.post-64154557976797117452008-12-06T23:00:00.000-05:002008-12-06T23:00:00.000-05:00I get what you mean, but then again Tootie was a s...I get what you mean, but then again Tootie was a slightly deranged kid, with all of her mentions of death and cemeteries.
I sometimes think she would've made a perfect Wednesday Addams.Notas Sobre Creación Cultural e Imaginarios Socialeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01423835555933819338noreply@blogger.com
