That's why I was so thrilled to recognize something I knew. ;-)

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed Candide. It got mixed reviews in Chicago and D.C. Some critics said it felt long and was confusing. I'm always afraid something like that will be a musty period piece. But a couple of friends really liked it so I gave it a try!Estherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16076517542540421210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1912669500934497251.post-86641166847760022772011-09-22T11:11:07.343-04:002011-09-22T11:11:07.343-04:00Wonderful post Esther. CANDIDE does indeed sound like WEST SIDE STORY at times. The two shows were written simultaneously and Bernstein shuttled some tunes back and forth between the two projects. In fact rejects from CANDIDE were recycled into WEST SIDE STORY as "Gee, Officer Krupke" and "One Hand, One Heart" among others.

I would have probably missed this show if it were not for a tweet from you that I chanced upon while in Boston to see PORGY AND BESS. I'm so glad I went.Greenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10412634072650228847noreply@blogger.com
