It's been over a year now since I started writing Gratuitous Violins and I'm still waiting, patiently, for a publisher to stumble upon it and offer me a book deal. Sigh.
Until then, I'll live vicariously through Julie Powell, who wrote a blog about working her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. It became a bestselling book and now, a movie, Julie & Julia, starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep in the title roles.
Here's the trailer. It opens Aug. 7, and I can't wait! Meryl Streep is pretty amazing.

I just saw the trailer for this for the first time about 15 minutes ago. I guess Dan Ackroyd wasn't available to play Julia?
Oh Dale, I didn't even think about Dan Ackroyd! Yes, that would have been interesting. But just from the brief clip I think Streep does a great job.
Hi Esther, did you like Julie and Julia? I read the book a while ago and found Julie hard to take. She complained a lot about a project that she chose to do. What did you think?
Hey Emily, great to hear from you! I read the book awhile ago and I did like it but I do know what you mean. She was a little whiny. I don't know, maybe that's the part of her character that made her stand out! But I did like the way she alternated her story with Julia Child's and I thought the ending was very sweet. And I have to admit, I'm a little envious. Why can't I think of a great blog idea and turn it into a book and a movie!
I love this preview! Thanks for posting it. I didn't even know this was a book or a movie! It's like Doubt, v 2.0!
Very true, Bob! I've been following the plans for this movie ever since I heard about it, because I enjoyed the book. So I'm really looking forward to it.
